FS2022 - Visiting Silverstone!
Updated: Mar 13

On the 7th of July, the team journeyed to Silverstone to spectate the Formula Student 2022 competition and observe how the event runs, and get some tips before we compete next year.
While travelling south for the competition we paid a visit to Hunts Motorcycles to look at the 2002 Honda CBR600F motorbike that will become the beating heart of of our first car. After some hotel locating troubles (our Team Principal Lucas was navigating and says it's not his fault that there's six Premier Inns in Milton Keynes, but we're not so sure...) we had an uneventful first night. On the Friday, we headed to Grand Prix Racewear to buy PPE for our drivers (thanks again Ross!).
On Saturday and Sunday we watched the Formula Student Dynamic Events, taking notes and enjoying the events. After some drama in the endurance event, Glasgow Uni's internal combustion car became Scotland's first overall FS winner! Additionally, Edinburgh Uni's driverless car won the overall AI DDT class meaning Scotland took the clean sweep!
As our closest neighbours, both of these teams have been instrumental in supporting our team whilst we get setup, so we were extremely pleased for them to see their hard work come to fruition. With this national pedigree, we're proud to be joining the competition as a Scottish competitor.
Overall, the visit was incredibly motivating for the team as it showed us that we are on the right track with this project. We can't wait to come back next year and actually compete!
