Founding Team (2022)

The Beginning

In late 2021, a group of students came together and founded what quickly became Formula Student Team Napier. The team had two big goals: enter the FS2023 competition with a running car, and secure the long-term future of the team. The team began as a passion project, but in February 2022 they had pitched the project to Edinburgh Napier University who told the team just one month later that they had secured not only significant funding but a workshop space too! By June, a rigid space-frame chassis design had been modeled - just before the team went and visited the FS2022 competition to learn about how the competition ran. During the summer, the team was also able to set up the workshop and acquired a 2002 Honda CBR600F S motorbike which they stripped to be able to use the engine. By September, the chassis was in the midst of manufacture - just in time for recruitment!

In July 2022, the team went to Silverstone to spectate the Formula Student UK competition to learn how the event runs, and get some tips before we compete in 2023. You can read more about the experience in our newsletter.
